Animal Instincts

For Father's Day we told my Dad we would all go to the zoo because he has been begging to go and sulking around about it for months and months...Ryan had the Friday before the 4th off and we were all healthy so we took the golden opportunity. We had a great day at the zoo. This was our first time to go to the San Francisco Zoo. I guess we liked it an awful lot because Ryan bought us a family membership (tax-deductible) at the end of the day. The gorillas were by far the most fascinating. We stayed at their exhibit the longest. The silverback made me pretty nervous, he would turn his head to look at someone in the crowd if they laughed a little too loud. He kept the other gorillas in line if they started to rough house and it appeared that there wasn't much keeping him in the cage should he get really ticked off! (Bear in mind this is the same zoo that had the tiger escape and kill someone a couple Christmas's ago.) Their most recent addition is, Hasani, born at this zoo (a rare occurence from what I read). He looked and acted about Millie's age and it was so adorable to see him exploring and travelling around on his Mom's back and legs. You can watch videos of his first bottle and his first meeting of his surrogate mother (his own mother had no interest in him) on youtube, it is so darn cute! We also got to see polar bears, spectacled bears and grizzly bears. There were also at least three different sets of male/female lions. At one point a female lion came over to her male companion who had just lied down right in front of us and relieved herself on his head...he quickly got to his feet. So much for being king of the jungle...no respect here!
We can't wait to use our passes and go again if anyone is interested!
